when i am at work, i have a lot of meetings. usually my boss is there. i am often surprised at the words that come out of this guys mouth. after all he is a manager and all.. i am surprised because he actually knows what the hell he is talking about. that's crazy! he's a manager. that's absurd.
tonight we went to johnr's for dinner. man john seems like a really happy guy. very inspiring. it was a nice dinner. he was very excited about making a vegan meal for me. he's on atkins, so that's a big deal. i got to ride around on his boat, meet his wife along with his amazingly well mannered kid, dog, and cat. it was real nice.
i rode to john's with my boss. on the way up we talked about some contract issues, on the way back we talked about one of my favorites things.. the robots and the future.
he had a very good counter argument to the robot's causing a lot of damage to society when they create huge unemployment.
his arguement was that it just won't happen. manual labor jobs will just not exist anymore. everyone will just move up to higher skilled jobs. the workers currently doing manual labor will be retiring, in the mean time new workers will be going into jobs that require more skills.
he also had an answer to my related concern about education requirements. in 20 years will you have to have a phd to get a low end job? he thinks that jobs of the future will require more education, but that education does not have to happen necessarily after college. more trade specific training along with kids just being fricken smarter. i think that's true. a kid coming out of highschool now is a hell of a lot smarter than a kid coming out of highschool 30 years ago.
so will the rate of human intelligence gain actually accelerate just like the rate of technology is accelerating? probably, the two build upon each other.
