dishwasher

holy bajesus. that was sure a lot of fun.

this was not an experience that encourages me to be handy. i try not to be handy and i am going to try less in the future.

so i installed the new dishwasher we got as a reception present from my dad, aunt, and uncle.

i learned all about the different types of pipe fittings. there are lots of types. they all are measured differently and have different thread sizes and you have to buy expensive parts to hook them together. The types I know of are:

pipe
compression
flare
hex

when i started i idiotically thought that 3/8" meant 3/8", but no.

the original dishwasher was installed with a straight copper pipe right into the inlet. see, the kids that installed it didn't have the freaking wall on the side of the cabinet when they installed, so they could do that. i had no room, it was gross even after i cleaned out the mouse skeletons and mouse crap, and the new dishwasher was the fancy new kind where the door goes down much farther (leaving about a whole 2" of room).

i needed to go from a 3/8" pipe fitting to a 3/4" non-existent-anymore fitting. i couldn't take either end to the store to test with.

it took 10 hours in total. 5 of those were running back and forth to the hardware store. 10 times (literally). once again, my should be a rule is reinforced..

only talk to people that work at stores if they are hot.

the hardware dudes wasted a lot of my time. when i am not an expert at something (can you believe it), i like to ask someone that is. i talked to two dudes. these guys were old timers too, they should know what is up.

so it was a lot of fun. every possible thing (except one) that could of gone wrong did. i was in the worst mood i have been in, in probably 10 years too. i just let myself be a grumpy bitch. the cool thing was at some point my brain just went loopy and i wasn't pissed off anymore. it was like.. hey bitch, i don't like your attitude, i'm taking control back.

in the end the answer was to cut the existing inlet copper pipe and just put a compression fitting on it. it was easy. maybe someday i'll learn to sweat copper pipe. I HOPE NOT.
