I knew this was going to happen earlier than people thought. It is just too easy for marketing people to tell the engineering department that they NEED to increase their numbers. BIGGER EQUAL BETTERZ! It's also is something a consumer can even understand (not the actual performance gain, but 4>2>1)
Here's my prediction.. Within a few months of these coming out we'll miraculously see a 8-core.
We all know what that means... 16-core is next! Woo.
Which will soon be the death of the GPU.

ok. In a nutshell.. raytracing! It was always destined to be the winner.. Just like zbuffering was for the GPU. Yes it costs a shitload up front, but man does it scale. We will soon reach that shitload intersection.
