if you have an oem version of windows you can not install it on another machine because it is not licensed for another machine.
now you might be able to get away with it a few times because it lets you, but eventually it will bitch and force you to call them for activation where they will tell you.. tough shit.
so i tell the dude.. so it is ok for you to buy a computer and then take some of those components to make a new computer, but you can't take the software. where the fuck is the fair use here? he actually sympathized with me. i think he doesn't like being unfair to people all day.
anyway. time to donate more money to eff. here's an idea. how about i donate the retail value of a copy of windows.
the funny thing about this is that the only reason i am installing it on this machine is because of x64 compatibility issues. wtf. sidenote: so when installing is asks you hit f8 if you agree with the eula. ok. fine. except that my new microsoft keyboard is doing something its own non-standard way and the bios driver does not see the f8 key! it sees the other keys. just not the function keys.
when i was younger i was a microsoft hater, though i used the software. (mainly because back then windows was a pile of shit.) i'd use all the m$ bullshit. as i got older and windows became decent i started to become a microsoft defender. well, half hearted at least. i'd still put in a little jab here and there.
the pendulum starts its swing in the other direction i guess.
after i finish this postl i am going to find a linux distro to install (gotta try once a year, it's like a tradition, maybe it'll finally stick.. like getting of ie for firefox). not that i am going to abandon microsoft software or anything because that would not prove anything.. just that it is best for me to start helping to work towards the future in which stupid shit like this does not happen.
i guess watching revolutionos the other day helped too. i mean geez.. that letter billg wrote to the hobby guys. omfg.
